FOODS THAT CHANGE THE WORLD
An exhibition about biodiversity, agriculture and daily consumption
After stops in Tours, Bilbao and Riga, the “Foods That Change the World” exhibition will be coming to Turin for the Salone del Gusto and Terra Madre. Using images, texts and interactive areas, it will illustrate the event’s central theme.
The exhibition is targeted primarily at European consumers, inspiring them to reflect on the fact that every decision they make about what food to buy can have significant consequences elsewhere in the world.
It starts with a tour of the world in photographic images, continues with a game for adults and children that teaches them how to use their senses to identify a food, and finishes in a small supermarket where they can explore the impact of their choices. Along the way, a four-step journey takes visitors through the supply chains of two emblematic products, bananas and coffee, and to a small food garden where children can play and receive a seedling to bring home and cultivate, reinforcing the link between food and the earth.
In the screening room, three documentaries filmed in Kenya, Ethiopia and Senegal will be telling small but significant stories of possible virtuous alternatives, examples of resistance against the growing madness of the industrial food system. They recount the Slow Food Presidia for Pokot ash yogurt in Kenya, Harenna forest wild coffee in Ethiopia and salted millet couscous from Fadiouth island in Senegal, all experiences that show how food can be the starting point for changing the life of a whole community.
The exhibition has been created using recyclable and eco-friendly materials and is funded by the European Union as part of the 4Cities4Dev project 4Cities4Dev Slow Food is a project partner, along with the cities of Turin (project leader), Tours, Bilbao and Riga.
