LEARNING

To help explain how food changes the world Slow Food will be organizing many fun and educational activities that invite visitors of all ages to rediscover the pleasures of conviviality, shop and eat responsibly, respect the seasons, benefit from biodiversity, train the senses and get to know the people who farm, catch and produce the foods that end up on our plates every day.

Slow Food will be welcoming adults and children, school groups and families in a redesigned and expanded space. Activities will be held in the Oval in the Ludoteca, the Teaching Kitchen, the Food Garden and the Supermarket in the Agora area of the Slow Food stand in Pavilion 2.

At the Salone del Gusto and Terra Madre, Slow Food will be for:
… playing with your friends and family and discovering the cultural value of food
… experiencing sowing seeds
… taking the time to reflect on food choices
… inspiring curiosity about the art of reuse in the kitchen
… atraining the senses, intuition and critical judgment

Agora

The public square is the symbol of the city, a site for markets and an economic and political hub where a community can discuss problems and make collective decisions. At the Salone del Gusto and Terra Madre, the Agora, named for the central gathering place of Greek city-states, will be a place for discussing important issues. These will include the relationship between food and health and how consumers can become co-producers through alternative purchasing channels like Earth Markets and community-supported agriculture. The Agora will host many fun activities, debates and meetings.

Food and Fun

Slow Food Education believes it’s important to have fun while learning, so its activities always include games, entertainment and convivial moments. This is the origin of the Ludoteca space. Come along and play, identifying foods that change the world and trying out new educational activities, like Guess Who about food habits, culinary quizzes, interactive experiences and many other multimedia and board games. Kids and grown-ups, visiting families and International Slow Food Congress delegates: all are welcome to come along and test out their food skills.

Smart Recycling

Producing, consuming, recycling… three processes that we can’t do without. Three processes that we take for granted without worrying about the “why.” Through games, lessons and educational activities we’ll find out how to choose the right way to separate waste and learn how it comes back to us, because recycling means transforming.

Teaching Kitchen

A fully equipped kitchen for participants in the Master of Food courses, learning the art of reusing and transforming leftovers in the kitchen and how to preserve the abundance of a vegetable garden or fruit tree.
