Others include people and land, history and identity, tradition and local food. But wine and terroir are also the primary inspiration behind Slow Wine 2011, Slow Food’s new wine guide.

The Taste Workshops have always given a lot of space to wine, but this year the subject is given even wider space and freedom, with the awareness that we need a new approach to tasting that takes nothing away from pleasure.

The fascination of the wine world will be communicated directly by leading wine professionals, with the workshops offering a chance to get to know many producers personally and to explore wine terroirs with the help of agronomists, enologists and biologists. As they describe the land, its typical grapes and its history, they will convey the wine’s meaning in the fullest possible way, giving tasters a vision of the wine from all angles.

And there’s much more: the best Belgian beers and the finest aged rums, one series of tastings on the art of mixology with the world’s greatest bartenders revealing their secrets and one exploring the food of Europe’s metropolises, looking at the many artisans and specialties still to be found in Paris, Berlin and Milan, with surprise guests. Not to mention workshops with Terra Madre food communities and others with the neo-gastronomes of the University of Gastronomic Sciences.

The places available for the Salone del Gusto events (Taste Workshops, Theater of Taste, Meet the Maker and Dinner Dates) and entrance to the Slow Wine-Banca del Vino space within the Enoteca are limited, so booking is essential. Book by October 1 nd you will be sent a confirmation e-mail as proof of booking.

Cancellations will be refunded at 70% only if made by e-mail to prenotazioni@slowfood.it before August 20th. Bookings and cancellations cannot be made by telephone.

During the Salone del Gusto (October 21–25), it will be possible to book any remaining places at the Events Reception (Lingotto Fiere, Oval Pavilion). To access all the events it is necessary to have a valid entrance ticket for the Salone del Gusto.
